".....what god gave us !"

King David is simply amazing. The more the scriptures reveal about his character and spirit the more i am convinced that there can be no other contender to the title "man after gods own heart".I was fascinated by the incident at the battle of Ziklag in I Samuel chapter 30.In this uncertain times of waging wars (both political and spiritual),not only the mode of the battle is important but the nature of the battle itself in which we are drawn towards is equally vital. When David took his refuge with the philistine king Achish he was entangled in a situation where he was summoned to fight against his own people the Israelites, his future citizens.Though David agreed to fight against his people God pulled David away from this battle by the dissent and doubt which rose among King Achish's philistine counterparts and he was sent back. When David returned from the battlefield to his town of Ziklag he found that it was already destroyed and ransacked by the Amalekites and his wives, sons and daughters were taken away! All along David was preparing to fight the wrong battle(against the Israelites)with wrong allies when he should have been fighting against the "real" enemies!.How hard it is for us to accept dissent and dishonor when we fail to see that it was god ordained, to woo us away from the wrong battle and to lead us to the right battle!

When doctors are called to fight against unequal health care they are far deep into their fight for less work and more pay! When engineers are called to improve the life of mankind they are busy switching companies to satisfy their purse and fighting against lack of "comfort" in their work environment! The list goes on.Is is not the reason god brings them to their attention to fight for the plight of the fatherless and widows through his ordained suffering? When mans ego is hurt he searches for ways to rectify it with a higher degree of work and effort to satisfy the ego rather than moving away from it to see the true picture where his own soul is being robbed and ransacked in another place like the Amalekites at Ziklag.David did not try to prove his strength and loyalty by disobeying Achish but rather he obeyed his order and he returned to the place where his help is really needed. The victory for the philistine army would have occurred even without Davids help as it was ordained by god that Saul and his men should perish.Davids strength was saved for the best when it was needed the most!.Men of this world may take pride in winning battles which has been already won but the lord leads the children of light to the "real" battle where he shows them how "the battle belongs to the lord"
!Inspite of all this there is scarcely a man who listens to the call of the lord of lords.Let him who has ears to hear hear what the spirit says to the churches.

When David fought the right battle and emerged victorious he calmed the dissent which arose among his soldiers regarding the sharing of the plunder goods. When some of them disagreed to share the goods with the people who stayed back on guard he told them "No brothers you must not do that with what the lord has given us!" .The victory in the right battle comes from the lord and David was more than willing to acknowledge it and set right the dispute. When we are willing to fight the right battle in this life instead of fighting the wrong battle at the wrong places "the battle belongs to the lord".It also makes us ask the right questions "what is my battle?" and "who is my ally?".
