"..but saul kept silent!"

I was reading I samuel chapter 10 regarding the events surrounding the coronation of saul as king. Some of the trouble makers had raised objections regarding his capability openly by disregarding him and brought him no gifts. When this news reached Saul, the bible says he "kept silent".I was wondering why he was silent? Why he refrained himself from vindicating himself? In an age where silence is considered as weakness, and as a sign of the hapless and hopeless the silence of saul sent a solid message to me.The temptation of man to self vindicate himself is an inborn nature engraved in his soul.To overcome it and to remain unfazed by criticizing arrows aimed at him, man has to be either deaf, shameless or filled a different mental framework which neither his critics or the world will understand.I presume that kind of chararcter formation is needed in the innermost echelons of the human soul to withstand the words of condemnation and wait for the vindication from the holy God who chooses and commends servants for the furtherance of his kingdom.
Later when the ammonites invaded Israel, Saul was moved by the holy ghost to overpower the enemies and when people tried to kill the people who had questioned the ability of Saul, he stopped them and glorified God.(...."for this day the lord had rescued Israel").A true servant refrains himself from selfvindication and waits for the holy God to vindicate his chosen one.May be Saul expected this day and the anticipation of this moment kept him silent before his
accusers. No wonder God chose such a man to be the first king over his chosen nation. Now is the time of his accusers to be silent and they had to listen to the cry of the prophet Samuel "...Come ,let us go to Gilgal and there reaffirm his (Sauls)kingship".True exaltation of man comes through the vindication of God!Is it because Jesus knew this fact that he was silent before Pilate?! (Mark 15:3,5,14:61,Matt 26:63,64 .........."But still Jesus made no reply, and Pilate was amazed!"
